Where Are My Insurance Cards?
It’s the most common question I get. Here is how to pull up a digital card in minutes and how to get a replacement mailed.
I’m Christopher Horne, a licensed health insurance broker serving Florida, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Virginia. Coverage starts, the card doesn’t — or it lands in a pile of mail you never opened. Every carrier I work with puts a digital card in your member portal, and that digital card works at the doctor and the pharmacy today. Find your carrier below. (This is one of the questions on my Ask Your Phone by voice page, too.)
First: You Probably Have Two Kinds of Coverage
Most of my clients carry a Marketplace medical plan (Oscar, Ambetter, Florida Blue, or another Marketplace carrier) plus supplemental plans through Golden Rule / UnitedHealthcare (things like Accident, HospitalWise, Dental, and Vision). That means two separate cards from two separate places. One missing card doesn’t mean you’re uncovered — let’s just find it.
Golden Rule / UnitedHealthcare (uhone)
- Go to uhone.com and sign in to your member account (create one with your policy number if you haven’t yet).
- Open your policy details — your digital ID card is viewable and downloadable there.
- Need a physical replacement or stuck logging in? Call Golden Rule member services at 1-800-657-8205.
Oscar Health
- Open the Oscar app or sign in at hioscar.com.
- Tap or click your ID card — you can show it from your phone or download a copy.
- Questions about your card or plan? Oscar member services: 855-672-2755.
Ambetter
- Sign in to your Ambetter member account online or in the Ambetter app.
- Your digital ID card is under your account details — download or screenshot it for today’s visit.
- For a replacement by mail, request one right inside the portal, or use the member services number on the back of any Ambetter letter you’ve received.
Florida Blue
- Sign in to your Florida Blue member account online or in the Florida Blue app.
- View or download your member ID card from your account dashboard.
- Order a replacement card in the portal if the paper one never showed up.
Still No Card? Read This Before You Panic
- Coverage can be active before the card arrives. New cards typically mail after your first payment processes. Your portal confirms whether you’re active right now.
- Urgent need today? A pharmacy or doctor’s office can usually verify you with your member ID from the portal. Get the ID from your account, not from memory.
- Never had a portal login? Your policy or member number is on your enrollment paperwork and your carrier’s welcome letter or email. That’s what you’ll use to create the account.
A Privacy Note About Card Photos
Treat your insurance card like a credit card. Don’t post photos of it, and don’t text photos of it — including to me. If we’re working on something together, we’ll pull up your portal or I’ll verify your details on a call. Once you have the digital card, here is how to read what’s printed on it.
