Money-Saving Resources I Share With My Clients
Real programs. No sign-up with me required.
I’m Christopher Horne, a licensed health insurance broker — but I share these with anyone, because everything is expensive right now. These are free, legit programs that help with prescriptions, phone and internet bills, utilities, and food. You don’t have to be my client, buy anything from me, or sign up for anything to use them. Just click through and apply if one fits.

Prescriptions
Medication prices are one of the biggest surprises for people. These are free to use:
GoodRx
Free discount coupons that can lower prescription prices at many pharmacies. No sign-up, no insurance needed — you just show the coupon. (You can’t combine it with insurance; use whichever gives you the lower price.)
NeedyMeds
A nonprofit directory of patient-assistance programs run by drug companies. If you take a brand-name drug and can’t afford it, the manufacturer may provide it free or nearly free. Free to search, no registration.
RxAssist
Another free directory of manufacturer programs for free or low-cost medications. If a drug company offers help for what you take, this is where you’ll find the application.
Phone & Internet
FCC Lifeline
A federal program that can lower your phone or internet bill each month for qualifying households. You generally qualify if your income is low or you’re on programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or SSI. Check eligibility and apply through the official site.
Utilities & Energy
The federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps with heating and cooling bills. It’s run through state and local agencies — here’s the national starting point plus the programs in my sixteen states:
LIHEAP (National)
Find your local energy assistance office and apply. There’s also a national hotline if you need help getting started: 1-866-674-6327.
State Energy Programs
Florida: LIHEAP
Florida’s official statewide online application for heating and cooling assistance.
Texas: CEAP
Texas’s Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program covers all 254 counties and helps with utility bills for households up to 150% of the poverty level.
Arizona: DES LIHEAP
Apply through the state’s A-to-Z Arizona portal. Help line: 1-866-494-1981.
Ohio: HEAP
Ohio’s Home Energy Assistance Program gives a one-time winter credit toward your heating bill for households at or below 175% of the poverty level. Apply online.
Michigan: State Emergency Relief
Michigan’s program helps with heat, electricity, shutoff notices, and some energy-related home repairs. Apply online through MI Bridges.
Iowa: LIHEAP
Iowa’s program pays a one-time amount directly to your heating utility. Applications open November 1 (October for households with someone 60+ or disabled); apply online or through your local community action agency.
Food & Essentials
211
Dial 211 (it’s a free call, 24/7) or visit the site for confidential referrals to local help with food, housing, utilities, and more — anywhere in the country.
Feeding America
Enter your ZIP code to find the food bank and food pantries closest to you.
SNAP (Food Assistance)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program puts monthly food benefits on a card you can use at grocery stores. Each state runs its own program — pick yours from the official USDA directory to apply.
National Hunger Hotline
A free USDA hotline that can point you to soup kitchens and food pantries near you. English: 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479). Spanish: 1-877-8-HAMBRE (1-877-842-6273).
A Note From Me
There’s no catch here and nothing to buy. I put this page together because the people I talk to every day ask me how to stretch a dollar, and I’d rather hand them something useful than shrug. If you found it helpful and ever want to talk about health insurance, you know where to find me.
