Health Insurance in Macedonia, Ohio

Macedonia is a small town in Summit County — about 12,168 residents. I help Macedonia households compare Marketplace coverage by phone.

I’m Christopher Horne, a licensed health insurance broker. I help individuals and families in Macedonia (Summit County, population about 12,168) shop the Marketplace, stack supplemental coverage where it fits, and actually understand what they bought. Macedonia grew about 8.8% between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, and new neighbors keep arriving with the same question: what does health coverage look like here?

How the Marketplace Works in Ohio

Ohio uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on household income, advance premium tax credits can lower your monthly premium, and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Ohio has expanded Medicaid, so many households below about 138% of the poverty line qualify for Medicaid coverage instead; above that line, Marketplace tax credits phase in. Either way, the first step is a two-minute check of which program fits — guessing wrong costs people real money.

Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

Who I Help in Macedonia

Most of my Macedonia clients fall into a few groups:

  • Families — Households putting kids and parents on one workable budget — usually the toughest math, and the most important to get right.
  • Self-employed & 1099 workers — Income that changes month to month needs a careful estimate — too low or too high both cause tax-time surprises. I help you set it honestly.
  • Turning 26 — Coming off a parent’s plan at 26 starts your own 60-day window. First solo plans are usually simpler — and cheaper — than people expect.
  • Retired before 65 — Left work before 65 and bridging the years until later coverage kicks in? Marketplace plans are built for exactly that gap.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

Macedonia sits in Summit County, and like most Ohio communities its size, one or two in-network doctors can make or break a plan choice. The 2020 census counted about 12,168 residents, up about 8.8% from 2010. When a community grows, in-network options change with it — worth a fresh look each year. I work with Macedonia clients by phone and text, so the whole conversation happens wherever you are — kitchen table counts as my office.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
