Health Insurance in Kingsport, Tennessee
Kingsport, Tennessee — a mid-size city in Sullivan County. Marketplace and supplemental coverage help from a licensed broker who answers his own phone.
With about 55,442 residents, Kingsport is a mid-size city in Sullivan County. My Kingsport clients never drive to an office — we handle coverage by phone and text, from the first quote to the confusing bill months later.
How the Marketplace Works in Tennessee
Tennessee uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on household income, advance premium tax credits can lower your monthly premium, and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Tennessee has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my Tennessee quoting. If you’re not sure which side of that line you’re on, that’s the first thing we check together.
Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.
Who I Help in Kingsport
Most of my Kingsport clients fall into a few groups:
- Families — Households putting kids and parents on one workable budget — usually the toughest math, and the most important to get right.
- Self-employed & 1099 workers — Income that changes month to month needs a careful estimate — too low or too high both cause tax-time surprises. I help you set it honestly.
- Turning 26 — Coming off a parent’s plan at 26 starts your own 60-day window. First solo plans are usually simpler — and cheaper — than people expect.
- Retired before 65 — Left work before 65 and bridging the years until later coverage kicks in? Marketplace plans are built for exactly that gap.
A Local Note on Choosing Well
Kingsport sits in Sullivan County, and like most Tennessee communities its size, one or two in-network doctors can make or break a plan choice. The 2020 census counted about 55,442 residents here. Whatever plan you’re looking at, I check the network against the doctors, clinics, and pharmacy you actually use — not just the premium on the first screen. I work with Kingsport clients by phone and text, so the whole conversation happens wherever you are — kitchen table counts as my office.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
