Health Insurance in Hillsboro, Texas
Hillsboro, Texas — a small town in Hill County. Marketplace and supplemental coverage help from a licensed broker who answers his own phone.
I’m Christopher Horne, a licensed health insurance broker. I help individuals and families in Hillsboro (Hill County, population about 8,221) shop the Marketplace, stack supplemental coverage where it fits, and actually understand what they bought.
How the Marketplace Works in Texas
Texas uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on household income, advance premium tax credits can lower your monthly premium, and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my Texas quoting. If you’re not sure which side of that line you’re on, that’s the first thing we check together.
Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.
Who I Help in Hillsboro
Most of my Hillsboro clients fall into a few groups:
- Self-employed & 1099 workers — Income that changes month to month needs a careful estimate — too low or too high both cause tax-time surprises. I help you set it honestly.
- Between jobs — Lost employer coverage recently? That opens a 60-day Special Enrollment window. COBRA is one option, but it’s rarely the cheapest — we compare before the window closes.
- New to the area — Just moved to Hillsboro? A move can open a Special Enrollment window, and your old plan’s doctors don’t always follow you. We rebuild the network around your new address.
- Folks whose agent disappeared — You enrolled with somebody, the card showed up, and the phone went quiet. I review existing plans for free — if yours is fine, I’ll tell you; if it’s not, Open Enrollment is the fix.
A Local Note on Choosing Well
Hillsboro is the largest incorporated community in Hill County, and a lot of the county’s daily life runs through here — work, school, and doctor visits alike. The 2020 census counted about 8,221 residents here. Whatever plan you’re looking at, I check the network against the doctors, clinics, and pharmacy you actually use — not just the premium on the first screen. I work with Hillsboro clients by phone and text, so the whole conversation happens wherever you are — kitchen table counts as my office.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
