Health Insurance in Sarasota, Florida
Arts, Siesta Key, and a growing Gulf Coast economy — coverage for Sarasota’s workers, families, and snowbirds.
Sarasota blends beach-town living with a serious working economy — healthcare, construction, hospitality, and a fast-growing small business scene from downtown to Lakewood Ranch. Sarasota Memorial is the hometown hospital system, and retirees settle here in droves while working families stretch every dollar. Florida’s federal Marketplace is where most individual buyers shop, and in Sarasota the smart play is matching the plan to your doctors and your drugs — premiums only tell half the story.
How the Marketplace Works in Florida
Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Florida has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
Who I Help in Sarasota
Most of my Sarasota clients fall into a few groups:
- Healthcare workers — Sarasota Memorial and private-care staff, often between jobs or without employer coverage.
- Hospitality and service workers — Siesta Key resorts, restaurants, and tourism businesses.
- Retirees and pre-retirees — settling on the Gulf Coast and covering the gap years.
- Small business owners — galleries, contractors, and professional services choosing coverage for themselves and key people.
A Local Note on Choosing Well
Sarasota Memorial’s network participation varies by plan, and Manatee County spillover (Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch) adds another layer of rating areas. I check your exact doctors against each option and quote your real Sarasota ZIP — no county averages.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll — the same combination I walk through on every call in every state I serve. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
