Health Insurance in Fort Myers, Florida
Southwest Florida’s working waterfront — growth, tourism, and families who need coverage that fits real life on the Gulf.
Fort Myers is growing fast — downtown redevelopment, new communities spilling east toward Lehigh Acres, and a hospitality economy that runs year-round. Lee Health anchors the hospitals, and the workforce spans construction, healthcare, retail, and the service industry. For individual coverage, Florida’s federal Marketplace is the shopping floor, and in a market this competitive the difference between a good pick and a bad one is usually network fit and total cost — not the logo on the card.
How the Marketplace Works in Florida
Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Florida has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
Who I Help in Fort Myers
Most of my Fort Myers clients fall into a few groups:
- Construction and trades workers — the engine of Lee County’s growth, often self-employed or between company plans.
- Hospitality and retail workers — year-round service jobs where benefits are thin or nonexistent.
- Young families — in the Gateway and Lehigh areas, juggling daycare costs and premiums in the same budget.
- Near-retirees — people in their 50s and 60s covering the gap years on the Gulf Coast.
A Local Note on Choosing Well
Lee County’s network landscape is dominated by Lee Health, so your plan’s relationship with that system matters — including which specialists are actually accepting new patients. I check your doctors before you commit and quote your exact Fort Myers ZIP.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll — the same combination I walk through on every call in every state I serve. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
