Health Insurance in San Antonio, Texas
Military City USA runs on service members, health workers, and hospitality — all of whom need Texas coverage that works as hard as they do.
San Antonio is Military City USA — Joint Base San Antonio, a huge medical community, and a hospitality economy that never sits still. If you’re buying individual health insurance here, Texas uses the federal Marketplace, and plans and prices shift by ZIP across Bexar County and the surrounding areas.
How the Marketplace Works in Texas
Texas uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
Who I Help in San Antonio
Most of my San Antonio clients fall into a few groups:
- ('Military families and veterans — TRICARE transitions, coverage between assignments, and options for spouses and kids.', '')
- ('Health care workers — nurses, techs, and clinic staff who need their own coverage dialed in.', '')
- ('Hospitality and service workers — River Walk, hotels, and restaurants employ thousands without employer plans.', '')
- ('Small business owners — contractors and shop owners from Stone Oak to the South Side.', '')
A Local Note on Choosing Well
San Antonio stretches across a big metro with several rating areas — what prices in Alamo Heights isn’t what prices on the far West Side. I quote your exact ZIP so you’re comparing real numbers, and I check which local hospital systems and clinics sit in each plan’s network before you enroll.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
