Health Insurance in El Paso, Texas
A proud border metro of military families and bilingual households — here’s how Texas coverage works on the far west side of the state.
El Paso is Texas’s western anchor — Fort Bliss, a deep-rooted bilingual community, and families who live and work across the border region. Texas uses the federal Marketplace, and in El Paso County your plan options and networks look different from the rest of Texas.
How the Marketplace Works in Texas
Texas uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
Who I Help in El Paso
Most of my El Paso clients fall into a few groups:
- ('Military families at Fort Bliss — transitions, spouses, and kids needing civilian coverage.', '')
- ('Bilingual households — I explain every plan in plain English, no jargon.', '')
- ('Cross-border workers — people who need U.S. coverage that fits how they actually live.', '')
- ('Small business owners — shops and restaurants across the metro.', '')
A Local Note on Choosing Well
El Paso’s provider networks are more concentrated than in Texas’s big eastern metros — which doctors and hospitals are in-network matters even more here. I check your doctors against each plan’s network before you enroll, so there are no surprises.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
