Health Insurance in College Station, Texas
Aggieland — where Texas A&M students, staff, and young families build their first real coverage.
College Station and Bryan revolve around Texas A&M — and the town is full of people buying health insurance for the first time: graduating students aging off a parent’s plan at 26, grad students with no employer coverage, and young professionals starting at A&M or the area’s growing employers. If you’re new to buying your own coverage, I explain everything in plain English and keep it there.
How the Marketplace Works in Texas
Texas uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
One Texas-specific note: Texas did not expand Medicaid. That means adults earning under 100% of the federal poverty level can fall into a coverage gap with no Marketplace tax credits available — so if your income is near that line, estimating it carefully matters. That’s exactly what I help you get right.
Who I Help in College Station
Most of my College Station clients fall into a few groups:
- Graduating students and recent grads — aging off a parent’s plan at 26 or finishing school with no employer coverage lined up.
- Grad students — stipend income and no employer plan; we get the income estimate right so the tax credit works.
- Young professionals — starting at A&M, local employers, or remote jobs and needing Texas coverage before benefits kick in — or instead of them.
- Young families — B-CS keeps growing, and new parents want one broker to call when a confusing bill shows up.
A Local Note on Choosing Well
A permanent move to Texas — for school, work, or both — can trigger a Special Enrollment Period, meaning you may not have to wait for Open Enrollment. And students who move here from another state should check whether their old plan’s network actually covers them in Brazos County. I check both before you shop.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
The Coverage Stack Most of My Clients Carry
Most of the individuals and families I help run the same simple stack: their ACA Marketplace health plan for the big stuff, plus three supplemental plans from Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) — AccidentWise for covered accidental injuries, HospitalWise for hospital stays, and DentalWise Max dental coverage. Benefit amounts and limits vary by policy. Together they cover a lot of the out-of-pocket costs a health plan leaves behind.
