Arizona Blood Drives: Give Blood With Vitalant

Donor centers and community drives across the Valley and beyond

Vitalant is Arizona’s main blood provider, supplying hospitals across the state. Donors get a free mini health check, donor rewards, and the knowledge that one visit can help save up to three lives. Here’s how to give.

Like every page in this series, this one is community-first. Arizona hospitals need blood every day — for surgeries, accidents, and cancer care — and Vitalant donors are the people who keep that supply moving. Here’s their appointment portal, a West Valley center, and how their donor rewards work.

What Donors Get: A Free Mini Health Check Plus Rewards

Every Vitalant donation starts with a free mini health check — blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and iron check — so you walk away knowing your numbers. On top of that, Vitalant runs a Donor Rewards program where donations earn points toward gift cards and other thank-you items.

Recent Vitalant promotions have included examples like:

  • A $20 gift card plus a t-shirt for donors during featured drives
  • A $10,000 gift card sweepstakes entry for donating in a promotion window

These are examples from recent promotions — offers change by drive and date, and no gift or prize is guaranteed. Check vitalant.org for what’s live when you book.

Can I Donate in Arizona? The Basics

  • Age: 16 and up, with signed parental consent at 16.
  • Weight: at least 110 pounds.
  • Bring: a photo ID.
  • Time: about an hour total; the donation itself takes roughly 10 minutes.
  • How often: whole blood can generally be given every 56 days.

Hydrate well the day before and eat a solid meal before your appointment — Arizona heat makes that advice count double. Vitalant’s screening team handles any medication or health questions privately at check-in.

Coverage Questions While You’re Here?

That free mini checkup is a helpful snapshot — but if your blood pressure or iron ever needs a doctor’s attention, coverage is what turns a worry into a plan. I help Arizonans compare health plans in plain English, at no fee to you (the insurance company pays me). Reach out any time.
