Health Insurance in St. Petersburg, Florida
Sunshine, arts, and a booming service economy on Tampa Bay — here’s how Florida coverage works in St. Pete.
St. Pete blends beach-town energy with a real working economy — hospitality, health care, marine trades, and a growing remote-worker crowd. Florida uses the federal Marketplace, and Pinellas County shoppers should compare plans by ZIP, not by billboard.
How the Marketplace Works in Florida
Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Florida has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.
Who I Help in St. Petersburg
Most of my St. Petersburg clients fall into a few groups:
- ('Hospitality and service workers — hotels, restaurants, and beach businesses.', '')
- ('Remote workers — people who brought their jobs to the Sunshine City.', '')
- ('Retirees and pre-retirees — covering the gap years on the Gulf Coast.', '')
- ('Small business owners — galleries, shops, and marine services.', '')
A Local Note on Choosing Well
Pinellas is a peninsula — your doctors, your pharmacy, and your hospital are all local, so network fit matters more than brand names. I check your providers against each plan and quote your exact ZIP before you enroll.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
