Health Insurance in St. Augustine, Florida

The Ancient City — tourism owners, teachers, and fast-growing suburbs.

St. Augustine pairs the nation’s oldest city with some of Florida’s fastest-growing suburbs — World Golf Village, Nocatee spillover, and thousands of tourism and hospitality workers. Innkeepers, tour operators, and restaurant owners here buy their own coverage, and seasonal income makes their Marketplace quotes tricky without help. I even out the math so there are no tax-time surprises.

How the Marketplace Works in Florida

Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Florida has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

Who I Help in St. Augustine

Most of my St. Augustine clients fall into a few groups:

  • Tourism owners — Innkeepers, tour operators, and Old Town retailers.
  • Hospitality staff — Restaurant and hotel workers without employer plans.
  • Growing-suburb families — World Golf Village and Murabella households.
  • Flagler College families — Faculty, staff, and young alumni starting out.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

Flagler Hospital anchors St. Augustine, with Jacksonville systems up the road for specialty care. I check both before recommending anything.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll — the same combination I walk through on every call in every state I serve. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
