Health Insurance in Miami, Florida

From Brickell to Hialeah, self-employed Miamians need coverage that keeps up.

Miami runs on people who work for themselves — realtors in Brickell, contractors in Doral, hospitality workers on the Beach, creators and freelancers in Wynwood. If you buy your own health insurance in Miami-Dade, the federal Marketplace is where most individual coverage lives, and the options change every year.

How the Marketplace Works in Florida

Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period.

Who I Help in Miami

Most of my Miami clients fall into a few groups:

  • Self-employed and gig workers — Miami has one of the highest self-employment rates in the country. Realtors, rideshare drivers, salon owners, and freelancers who need real coverage without an employer plan.
  • Hospitality and service workers — hotel, restaurant, and cruise-adjacent workers whose jobs don’t always come with benefits.
  • Early retirees and early-retiree — folks in their late 50s bridging to 65 who need solid coverage for the most expensive years.
  • New arrivals — people who moved to South Florida recently and need coverage in a new ZIP code fast.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

One Miami-specific heads-up: networks matter more here than almost anywhere. Some of the cheapest plans have narrow hospital networks, and in a metro this spread out, the difference between a plan that includes your doctors near you and one that doesn’t is everything. I check networks street by street before I recommend anything.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
