Health Insurance in Birmingham, Michigan

Walkable downtown, executives, and metro Detroit prestige.

Birmingham is metro Detroit’s walkable prestige address — Old Woodward boutiques, finance and law professionals, and executives who buy coverage the way they buy everything: carefully. I compare Michigan’s Marketplace networks at Corewell and Henry Ford with a fine-tooth comb for these households.

How the Marketplace Works in Michigan

Michigan uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Michigan expanded Medicaid under the Healthy Michigan Plan, so lower-income residents may qualify there while households above the line use Marketplace tax credits. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

Who I Help in Birmingham

Most of my Birmingham clients fall into a few groups:

  • Finance and law professionals — Partners and practice owners.
  • Executives — Households between Detroit-corridor roles.
  • Downtown owners — Old Woodward retailers and restaurateurs.
  • Early-retiree couples — Birmingham retirees bridging to 65.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

Corewell Health facilities in Royal Oak and Troy serve Birmingham, with Henry Ford across the region. I confirm your exact doctors first.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll — the same combination I walk through on every call in every state I serve. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
