Lost Your Health Coverage? It’s Not the End of the World.
If your Marketplace plan disappeared and you never saw it coming — you’re not alone, and you’re not out of options. Here’s what happened, how to check if it was you, and how to get covered again — the right way, with your own eyes on every step.
What Happened — In Plain English
On August 31, 2026, CMS canceled approximately 315,000 Marketplace enrollments covering more than 760,000 people. The agency announced the action on September 22, 2026.
The reason: after a joint review with health insurers, CMS confirmed these were unauthorized enrollments — applications submitted with the help of an agent or broker, but without verified citizenship or immigration documentation, where the insurer couldn’t identify claims or even reach the consumer. Many of the people affected may never have known they were enrolled at all.
CMS also said it is reviewing about 419,000 additional enrollees, and has removed 200 agents and brokers found non-compliant with federal rules. Separately, CMS paused registration of new agents and brokers through February 1, 2027, and now requires consumers to electronically authorize any agent or broker activity on their application.
No politics, no panic — just the facts. If your coverage vanished, here’s how to find out whether this was you.
Was It You? A 3-Step Check
I can’t check this for you — but you can check it yourself in a few minutes. Here’s how:
- Log into your HealthCare.gov account. Go to HealthCare.gov and sign in with the account tied to your application. If you don’t remember creating one, that itself is a red flag — someone may have created it for you.
- Check your enrollment status. Look at your current applications and enrollments. Is your plan listed as active? Does the termination or end date look wrong? Does anything show a plan you don’t recognize?
- Look for unfamiliar agents or plans. Check whether an agent or broker you’ve never spoken to is listed on your application. Look at the plan name, the coverage dates, and the household information — if anything doesn’t look like yours, that’s your answer.
If something looks wrong, you can file a Marketplace appeal within 90 days of your eligibility notice, and you can ask about a Special Enrollment Period — it isn’t automatic in these cases, so you have to request it. And Open Enrollment for 2027 starts November 1, 2026 — nobody has to go uncovered.
One warning worth hearing: an unauthorized enrollment tied to your name can also mean tax-credit payments were made on a policy that wasn’t really yours. Getting re-enrolled cleanly — with accurate information — is how you protect yourself going forward.
Here’s How You Get Covered Again
The path forward isn’t complicated, and this time you drive. It’s called Smart Enroll — my guided self-enrollment:
- Run the 60-second estimate. The subsidy calculator shows where your household lands for 2027 — plain English, no account needed, nothing stored on a server.
- Self-enroll with me as your agent of record. Click the button on this page and complete your own application. Because you start from my link, I’m the licensed agent responsible for your plan all year — at no extra cost to you.
- I review it the same day. Every enrollment through my link gets my personal review the same day — wrong plan, missing documents, anything off. If I see a problem, I call you before it becomes a headache.
This is the trust pitch, and I mean it: every step is visible to you. Nothing gets signed without your eyes on it. That’s exactly how an unauthorized enrollment can never happen to you again.
Why It Won’t Happen Again With Us
- Consent first, always. Nothing happens on your application without your explicit authorization — that’s my rule, and now it’s CMS’s rule too.
- You drive, I’m the safety net. You complete your own application. I don’t type things in for you behind a curtain — I review what you submitted.
- Same-day review. Every enrollment through my link gets checked by me personally the same day. Unfamiliar agents, wrong details, missing documents — I’m looking for all of it.
- A real, licensed, accountable agent. I’m Christopher Horne, a licensed health insurance broker (NPN 20489570) in FL, TX, AZ, OH, MI, IA, NC, OK, MO, SC, and TN. My name and license are on the line with every enrollment — that’s the difference between me and a name you’ve never heard on your paperwork.
