Health Insurance in Edinburg, Texas

Rio Grande Valley hub — county government, UTRGV, and regional healthcare.

Edinburg is the Hidalgo County seat and one of the fastest-growing cities in the Valley — home to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a large regional medical corridor.

How the Marketplace Works in Texas

Texas uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

Who I Help in Edinburg

Most of my Edinburg clients fall into a few groups:

  • Valley families — Multigenerational households across Hidalgo County.
  • UTRGV community — University staff, students, and their families.
  • Healthcare workers — DHR Health and the regional medical corridor.
  • Border-economy workers — Trade, logistics, and agriculture across the Valley.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

DHR Health anchors Edinburg care, and Valley families often cross between Edinburg, McAllen, and Mission for doctors — I check networks across the whole Valley, not just one city.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
