Health Insurance in East Lansing, Michigan
Michigan State's city — students, staff, and Lansing professionals.
East Lansing runs on Michigan State — graduate students aging off parent plans, university staff households, and Lansing professionals along Grand River Avenue. Michigan has expanded Medicaid (Healthy Michigan) to 138% FPL, with Marketplace credits above that.
How the Marketplace Works in Michigan
Michigan uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Michigan has expanded Medicaid (Healthy Michigan) to 138% of the poverty level, so many lower-income households start there, with Marketplace credits above that line. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

A Local Note on Choosing Well
Sparrow and McLaren serve the Lansing–East Lansing market — I confirm your system and campus doctors before quoting.
Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone
The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.
As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
