Health Insurance in Destin, Florida

Emerald Coast tourism economy — charter boats, hospitality, and second homes.

Destin runs on tourism — charter fleets at HarborWalk, hospitality, vacation-rental owners, and service pros whose income swings with the season. That variability is exactly what Marketplace income planning is built for.

How the Marketplace Works in Florida

Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. During Open Enrollment (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027) you can shop, compare, and enroll — enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Depending on income, federal tax credits can lower your premium and cost-sharing reductions can lower what you pay for care on Silver plans. Florida has not expanded Medicaid, so there is a coverage gap below 100% of the poverty level — but tax credits are available at 100% and above, which is where I do most of my quoting. Outside Open Enrollment, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby — triggers a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days.

Who I Help in Destin

Most of my Destin clients fall into a few groups:

  • Charter & hospitality crews — Boat crews and HarborWalk workers without employer coverage.
  • Vacation-rental owners — Self-employed owners with seasonal, documentable income.
  • Service families — Year-round households in Destin and Miramar Beach.
  • Early retirees — Second-home owners making Destin permanent before 65.

A Local Note on Choosing Well

HCA Florida Destin and Fort Walton systems serve the area, with Sacred Heart in Pensacola and Miramar Beach nearby — I map your care pattern across the Emerald Coast before pricing.

Why Work With a Broker Instead of Going It Alone

The Marketplace website will show you plans, but it won’t tell you which doctors are actually easy to see, which plans have surprised people with bills, or how a plan change next year affects the prescriptions you take. That’s what I do.

As a licensed broker, I help you compare plans side by side — networks, drug coverage, deductibles, and real total cost — in plain English. There’s no fee for my help; I’m paid by the insurance company. Many of my clients also stack supplemental coverage on top of their major medical: Golden Rule (UnitedHealthcare) AccidentWise, HospitalWise, and DentalWise Max dental coverage — benefit amounts and limits vary by the policy you choose, and we review the actual schedule together before you enroll. And I don’t disappear after enrollment: when you get a confusing bill or need to change plans, you call me directly at 954-787-9118.
